Let’s go to Capri today. Arguably one of the most beautiful places in the world, Capri, an island off of the Amalfi Coast, has been adored since the ancient Roman times. AND it’s also home to my second favorite spritz drink, the Limoncello Spritz. Joe and I had our first Limoncello Spritz in Capri three years ago, and ever since have been making our own whenever we’re in the mood for something refreshing. It’s SO easy to make and will take you straight to the Amalfi Coast. Below you’ll find the recipe and hear more about the day we discovered this fabulous drink, on a boat trip in Capri.

From the Faraglioni to the blue grotto, in my humble opinion, the natural beauty of Capri is best seen by boat. I had been to Capri once before, but not by boat. Don’t get me wrong, walking the inner piazzas of Capri and AnaCapri (the upper level of the island) is beautiful, with breathtaking views and gorgeous luxury shops. BUT my absolute favorite sight in Capri is the blue grotto. Only accessible by row boat, you must take your boat to the outside of the grotto, where dozens of boats wait to be taken in by row boats. Going to the blue grotto is not guaranteed, with high tide, the grotto will be closed. Fortunately for us, we were able to go in when we visited and inside is PURE MAGIC. Enclosed in a dark cave, the reflection of the light shines on the water, showcasing the most gorgeous color blue you’ve seen in your life. Going into the grotto is an experience within itself. Once you get into your rowboat, your rower will be sitting up front, you and your companion behind. Right before entering the grotto, everyone lays down onto each other’s stomachs and within one swoop you’re in! Similar to gondoliers, the rowers all have personalities and some of them will even sing for you. It’s a romantic experience to say the least!

After we were done with our visit to the blue grotto, we got back on our boat, where our guide not only packed us an amazing picnic lunch, (with fresh tomatoes from his garden!!) but then took us to the other less popular grottos where we could swim and also straight through the Faraglioni, where it’s tradition (and good luck) to kiss while you glide through the rocks. My recommendation would be at least 4 hours to boat tour Capri. When you’re done, take a stroll through the town with a Limoncello Spritz to go. This is how and where we discovered this special drink. From a small stand, outside the shops, we decided to give it a try! We’ve found that you don’t have to be in Capri to have a Limoncello Spritz, many other cities in Italy will have it. BUT since Limoncello is known to be from Southern Italy, specifically, the Amalfi coast, it’s definitely apropos to have in Capri. As I mentioned, this cocktail is very refreshing and very easy to make. You only need Limoncello, Prosecco and club soda + a lemon slice and sprig of mint for garnish. See full recipe below. Salute!
